**A quiet Sunday with a few real items. The Orissa High Court set aside two mining demands against JSW Steel's Jajang iron ore block that together came to about ₹2,169 crore. Dodla Dairy answered reports that the food regulator, FSSAI, is prosecuting it over a milk sample, saying two laboratories' reports on the same sample differ materially. Zen Technologies agreed to buy 51.98% of Cogknit Semantics, a developer of battlefield management systems, for ₹135.15 crore. And Vedanta doubled its South African zinc capacity at Gamsberg.**

## The ones to read first

- **JSW Steel** [disclosed](https://nsearchives.nseindia.com/corporate/DivyaMascarenhas%5F18102026122524%5FSEIntimationJajangMinesHCOrdersOct162026.pdf) two Orissa High Court judgments of 16 October on demands for shortfalls in dispatching minerals from its Jajang iron ore block in Keonjhar, Odisha, under Rule 12-A of the Minerals Concession Rules:
  - a demand of about ₹696.32 crore for the first year of its mine development and production agreement (June 2020 to June 2021), which the company believes "stands quashed" in view of the court's directions;
  - a demand of about ₹1,472.69 crore for the fifth year (June 2024 to June 2025), which the court set aside and sent back to the authority to decide afresh in line with an April 2026 judgment.
  - Together about ₹2,169 crore (our arithmetic). The filing says the delay in disclosure was the time taken to review the judgments.
- **Dodla Dairy** [issued a clarification](https://nsearchives.nseindia.com/corporate/DODLA%5F18102026154146%5FDodla%5Fclarification.pdf) after an FSSAI social media post of 17 October and media reports that FSSAI has started prosecution proceedings against it.
  - FSSAI drew a 500 ml sample of its "Full Cream Milk" on 9 January 2026 at Nilakottai Taluk, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu; best-before date 12 January.
  - The primary laboratory found it "substandard" on one parameter, milk fat, and recorded adulterants, including detergent and neutralizers, as absent. On the company's appeal, the National Food Laboratory reported the sample "unsafe and substandard", with the qualitative presence of detergent/caustic soda.
  - The company says the two reports differ materially on the same sealed sample, and that the referral laboratory analysed it about two months after the best-before date. It says it has received no formal order of prosecution or sanction, and that there is "no financial or operational impact on the company at this point of time".
- **Zen Technologies**' board [approved an investment](https://nsearchives.nseindia.com/corporate/ZENTEC%5F18102026112012%5FPressRelease18102026.pdf) of ₹135.15 crore for a 51.98% stake, on a fully diluted basis, in Cogknit Semantics, a Bengaluru defence technology company that won the iDEX challenge to build a battlefield management system for main battle tanks.
  - The money buys new shares in Cogknit's funding round and existing shares; investor Ashish Kacholia and his associates also invest in the round. Cogknit becomes a subsidiary on completion, and its founders continue to run it.
  - The release says the system has completed field trials with the Indian Army. It gives no revenue or profit figures for Cogknit.

## Deals and capital

- **Vedanta** [said](https://nsearchives.nseindia.com/corporate/VEDL%5F18102026120209%5FSEintimationGamsbergExpansionfinalsigned.pdf) it has doubled annual zinc production capacity at its South African operations to 500,000 tonnes, through an investment of nearly US$600 million in Gamsberg Phase II at Vedanta Zinc International. It restates a goal of 3 million tonnes a year across India and South Africa: 2 million from Hindustan Zinc and 1 million from Vedanta Zinc International.
- **Amber Enterprises**' material subsidiary IL JIN Electronics signed share swap agreements to buy out the minority holders of two step-down subsidiaries, paying in compulsorily convertible preference shares (CCPS) issued at ₹10,000 each:
  - [Power-One Micro Systems](https://nsearchives.nseindia.com/corporate/AMBER%5F18102026164959%5FPower%5FOne.pdf): the remaining 40% for 1,76,000 CCPS, about ₹176 crore at the issue price (our arithmetic). The filing states the sellers are related parties and that the deal is at arm's length.
  - [Ascent Circuits](https://nsearchives.nseindia.com/corporate/AMBER%5F18102026161739%5FAscent.pdf): the remaining 1.50% for 13,120 CCPS, about ₹13.12 crore (our arithmetic).
  - Both become wholly owned subsidiaries of IL JIN and Amber.
- **Oil India** [signed](https://nsearchives.nseindia.com/corporate/OIL%5F18102026110758%5FPressRelease%5Fsigned.pdf) a revenue sharing contract on 15 October for a special coal bed methane block, SR-ONHP-(CBM)-2026/1, covering 272.14 sq km in the Singrauli coalfield. The release calls it a return to coal bed methane exploration; it gives no investment figure.
