Daily Filing Digest: Tuesday, 20 Oct 2026

20 Oct 2026: police detain Schaeffler India's MD over a factory accident; Moody's puts Yes Bank's CET1 at 11.4% after AT-1; ₹591 crore tax order on ICICI Life.

A light filing day for Vijayadashami. Police took Schaeffler India's CEO and Managing Director into custody in an investigation into a June accident at its Talegaon factory in which two workers died. Moody's affirmed Yes Bank's Ba1 deposit ratings and gave the first figure for the Supreme Court's AT-1 ruling: the bank's core capital ratio falls to 11.4% from 13.7% on a pro-forma basis. ICICI Life (formerly ICICI Prudential Life) received a rectified tax order taking the demand for assessment year 2023 to ₹591.42 crore, which it has appealed. India Ratings upgraded Karamtara Engineering to IND AA-. And Edelweiss's alternatives arm, EAAA India Alternatives, set its IPO for 26 to 28 October.

The ones to read first

  • Schaeffler India: the filing states that CEO and Managing Director Harsha Gopal Kadam was taken into custody by the Talegaon MIDC police at about 6:40 p.m. on 19 October, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

    • The investigation concerns an accident at the Talegaon, Pune factory on 9 June 2026: two workers of a service provider died in "a sudden CO₂ gas discharge during scheduled cylinder replacement".
    • The filing says the scope of the investigation "has now been expanded to involve the Managing Director, on the basis that he is the 'occupier' of the factory premises under applicable law".
    • The company says senior management runs day-to-day operations, business continues "in the ordinary course", and it is evaluating the matter with legal advisers. It gives no estimate of financial impact.
  • Yes Bank: Moody's affirmed its Ba1 deposit and issuer ratings (stable outlook) and its ba2 baseline credit assessment.

    • The release says "Management estimates the bank's CET1 ratio will decline to 11.4% from 13.7% on pro-forma basis as of September 2026" once the AT-1 bonds are reinstated, a fall of 2.3 percentage points (our arithmetic). The Tier 1 ratio stays unchanged because the bonds count as Tier 1 capital.
    • Moody's expects a one-time hit to profit and expects the bank to raise new equity. It would consider a downgrade if tangible common equity falls below 11% of risk-weighted assets "without clear visibility into a capital raising plan".
    • Separately, the bank corrected the cover page of its 17 October results letter: the joint auditors issued a qualified conclusion in their limited review, not an audit report with a modified opinion. Nothing else changes.

  • ICICI Life (formerly ICICI Prudential Life Insurance): the income-tax department issued a rectification order for assessment year 2023, adding ₹97.08 crore of tax and ₹133.11 crore of interest (rounded to crore).

    • The total demand is now ₹591.42 crore: tax ₹372.36 crore and interest ₹219.05 crore, no penalty.
    • The company says there is "No adverse material impact on the financial operations of the Company" and that it has appealed.
