Titan's Q2: Bigger Bills, Not Many More Buyers
Titan's consumer businesses grew about 25% in Q2, and jewellery about 21%. Inside that, the number of jewellery buyers grew only in the mid-single digits, while the average bill grew in double digits. Studded jewellery grew in the early thirties, faster than plain gold (about 20%); gold coins fell. Titan also says demand softened at the end of the quarter, as the festive calendar moved into Q3.
What the filing says
From Titan's Q2 update ([TTN]):
| Business | YoY growth | Net stores added | Stores (Sep '26) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jewellery (domestic) | c.21% | 42 | 1,269 |
| of which Tanishq, Mia, Zoya, beYon | 20% | 29 | 875 |
| of which CaratLane | 32% | 13 | 394 |
| Watches | c.30% | 34 | 1,379 |
| EyeCare | c.28% | — | 847 |
| Emerging businesses | 21% | 1 | 99 |
| Domestic total | 22% | 77 | 3,594 |
| International | 97% | 1 | 164 |
| Consumer businesses | 25% | 78 | 3,758 |
Inside jewellery:
- Studded: "grew strongly in the early thirties".
- Plain gold: about 20%.
- Coins: down by a high single digit, off a high base.
- Buyers: up mid-single digits; average ticket sizes: up double digits.
Reading it
- Growth came from the bill, not the crowd. If buyers grew about 5% and jewellery revenue about 21%, most of the growth is more spent per buyer (our reading of Titan's bands). The filing doesn't say how much of that is gold price and how much is customers trading up.
- The mix moved towards studded. Studded grew about 10 points faster than plain gold. Studded usually earns more per rupee of sales than plain gold (a general industry point, not from this filing).
- International is partly bought. The 97% includes Damas Jewellery (67% owned), consolidated from January 2026, so part of the jump is inorganic. Titan doesn't give the growth excluding Damas.
- A softer September. Titan says demand softened towards the quarter's close as the festive calendar shifted into Q3.
Moat and margin
Focus moat: intangible assets (brand trust). Jewellery is a high-value, infrequent purchase where buyers worry about purity and resale. A trusted brand earns its edge when customers trade up with it. Two lines in this filing point that way:
- studded growth in the early thirties;
- double-digit growth in ticket sizes.
The margin side. The update gives no margins. A richer studded mix generally helps jewellery margins, but promotions ("Festival of Diamonds") were part of how studded grew.
MoatSCORE: 5.17 (AMBER+, first pass), from the live Moat Screener ([MS]).
The bear case
- Few new buyers. Mid-single-digit buyer growth means Titan is mostly selling more to the customers it has.
- Price, not volume. Ticket growth may be largely gold price; the filing doesn't separate it.
- Promotion-led studded. Studded growth was "aided by" a diamond festival and brand promotions.
The case for
- Mix up. Studded at early-thirties growth, plain gold about 20%.
- Broad growth. Watches about 30%, EyeCare about 28%, CaratLane 32%.
- Network. 78 stores added in the quarter, 3,758 in all.
What to watch
- Q3, with the festive season moved in: does buyer growth pick up?
- Q2 results: jewellery margins, and whether the studded mix shows up in them.
- International growth excluding Damas, if Titan gives it.
